Repens

DESCRIPTION

These representations of Ficus plumila, or creeping fig, are prolific. From study to fascinator, these vines are celebrants of fecundity. As in their natural form, these vines bud frequently and follow the habit of springing forth from seemingly nowhere. This habit was the inspiration for the wearable millinery version. As a fascinator, it can be attached by the wearer with pins. The vibrant gem tones of the lacquered leaves give the illusion of jeweled diadem rather than vine.

For in the true nature of things, if we rightly consider, every green tree is far more glorious than if it were made of gold and silver.

-Martin Luther

Repens, or creeping as its former specific name indicated, is still true in both wearable and potted versions. In its potted or topiary form, this ficus attempts to escape its container and lift off its form. The spherical structure is layered with overlapping vines resembling something more precocious than vegetal.

Several concepts are available including potted topiaries, large and small fascinators, and “cuttings”.
